The mountain becomes high-tech: from traditional Tyrolean houses you step directly into a (nearly) floating pod inspired by “Star Trek.”

The idea is to place a bed under the stars—an open room without walls or ceiling—right in the middle of the Dolomites at 2,100 meters above sea level. It’s simply called “Capsula,” the futuristic shelter designed by industrial designer Ross Lovegrove.
At first glance it resembles a drop of mercury, explains its creator, Moritz Craffonara, 64, manager of one of the most iconic mountain lodges in South Tyrol, the “Moritzino” in La Villa. The bubble, suspended in the air (just a few centimeters above the ground thanks to electromagnetic fields), will be positioned at the top of the famous Gran Risa slope, the World Cup giant slalom course in Alta Badia.
In short: a completely new experience for those who wish to fall asleep with the Marmolada glacier on one side and the Fanes massif on the other. It feels like being outdoors—maybe surrounded by snow and stars—while simultaneously enjoying the privacy of an exclusive high-tech retreat.
“An incredible ethereal space. Lying inside this capsule, perhaps listening to classical music that stimulates the senses, you can enjoy the stunning 360-degree Dolomite panorama.”
